Península Films & Entertainment has signed on as co-producer for "Insectario," the debut feature from stop-motion animator Sofía Carrillo. The deal was finalized between Península's Eduardo Díaz Casanova and Pimienta Films' Nicolás Celis during the 24th Morelia Film Festival. Pimienta Films previously produced Alfonso Cuarón's Oscar-winning "Roma."
Carrillo has earned international acclaim for her short films, including the award-winning "Cerulia." Her distinctive visual style blends dark fantasy with meticulous craftsmanship, establishing her as a significant voice in Latin American animation. "Insectario" marks her transition to feature-length storytelling.
The co-production agreement strengthens the collaboration between two of Mexico's prominent independent production companies.
