Taiwanese Debut 'Uncle' Seeks Partners at Busan Asian Project Market

Taiwanese filmmaker Yen Hao-hsuan is presenting his first feature, "Uncle," at the Asian Project Market running alongside the Busan International Film Festival. The coming-of-age drama follows a boy whose devotion to his uncle, a man with an intellectual disability, turns to shame as he matures and leaves home. Producer Fran Borgia, whose film "Tiger Stripes" won at Cannes, is backing the project.

The film is among the selected projects at the Asian Project Market, a co-production and financing platform within Busan's Asian Contents & Film Market. Borgia's involvement signals international festival potential for the debut feature, which explores family dynamics and disability through a child's shifting perspective.

"Uncle" represents a growing wave of Taiwanese cinema targeting global festival circuits and co-production pathways. The project is currently seeking completion financing and sales representation ahead of its anticipated festival premiere run.
